A Safe Home for Everyone

We witnessed an unprecedented refugee crisis in the last decade spanning from Syria, to Yemen, to Venezuela. On August 15 2021 and on February 24 2022, we witnessed the collapse and take over of Afghanistan and Ukraine. Within a span of 7 months we witnessed the forced migration of millions of people, leaving us all with the question- how do we respond to displacement caused by war? How do we mitigate resource scarcity and fear caused by mass displacement in the future?

Like many of you, our team at Afghan Innovation (AI Foundation) started this journey with the goal of helping one person. We are astounded to share that 12 months on we have a dedicated team and an army of volunteers that have helped families displaced from Afghanistan.

We later expanded our work into Ukraine at the height of the war, rapidly raising funds to support the food and medical shortages in Ukraine.

Like a startup on steroids, we have focused entirely on one area- ground operations to evacuate families and to bring in essential supplies. We have built a full stack service from evacuation, to visa applications, to supporting families with medical bills, rent, and food. We’ve quickly mobilized in a multi-faceted and extremely complex ecosystem, building relationships and strategically working with governments and key international stakeholders.

Some of our achievements:

  • Afghanistan- We have helped families get to Spain, Portugal, Germany, Qatar, USA, Greece, Canada, UK and continue our efforts.

  • Ukraine- We have partnered with military and ex-military experts to deliver meals and medical kits to Ukraine, with a goal of 500,000 units.

  • Government relations: We have opened corridors for families by strategically working with governments, royal families and NATO, brokering deals- advocating- finding creative solutions when the conventional way failed- we found another avenue. As time goes on- it’s gotten more difficult to get governments to cooperate. As governments further restrict their refugee intake, we increase our targeted work to get cases approved.

  • International Collaborations: We have strategically partnered with and collaborated with organizations who we now fund locally to continue their work on ground.

  • Team: We have grown an incredibly skilled and dedicated international team based in the US, UK and Spain.

  • Success rate- we have only had 1 case denied in 10 months that’s a 99% success rate when it comes to visas

  • Funds: We rapidly raised funds through internal networks to continue our work across the regions.

What will we do from here onward?

Over 12 months we diligently worked to support families, with one goal in mind to help these families find a safe home.

We know all too well the struggles refugees face when they are displaced. Currently over 80 million people have been forcibly displaced from their homes. Sending refugees to camps in the hope that one day they will return to their country leads to indefinite displacement and anguish as refugee families are segregated from society.

We’re here to change that, we’re here to build a future where people can transition to a safe home. Join us on our ambitious vision to help help find everyone a safe home.

What we do

Logistics - work with a network of organizations and partners and governments to safely move families to their new home.

Land - many Afghans that have evacuated have landed in temporary host countries like Greece, Albania, Pakistan, and Qatar. We will work with our partner countries to secure visas and refugee status for those stuck in limbo.

Long-term - we are working to redesign the refugee system so that families find a safe home and do not end up in refugee camps.
